What Beach Summers Do to Your Interior
Sand in the Carpet & Seat Rails
Sand doesn't just sit on top of the carpet — it works down into the fibers and grinds like sandpaper every time you press a mat. It also fills the seat rails and the tracks under the seats, which is why seats sometimes grind when you slide them after a beach trip. A regular vacuum won't pull sand that's worked into the carpet base.
Salt Residue
If you've been in the water, you're bringing salt back with you — on towels, on skin, on wetsuits and beach bags. Salt leaves white, crusty residue on fabric and carpet, and it holds moisture, which is what leads to that damp, musty smell in a closed-up car.
Sunscreen on the Seats
Sunscreen transfers off skin and onto seat fabric and leather every single trip. On fabric it shows up as greasy, darkened spots. On leather it leaves a slick, shiny film that attracts more dirt. It doesn't wipe off with a dry towel — it needs a proper clean to break down the oils.
UV Fade & Drying
Summer sun through the glass is the quiet one. Interior temperatures climb well past 130°F, and UV fades the dash and dries out leather and vinyl until they stiffen and crack.
